1998 Celebrated 10 Years of PC to video conversion by VineThe first PC-TV convertor produced by Vine in 1988 took a mere 3 or 4 months to develop, with PCB layout done (literally) by hand and a small program written in assembler language. The first CORIO product launched 10 years later (CORIOscan Pro) took 18 months to develop, included features never before seen in a scan convertor, and used the latest technology micro-controller and programmable logic devices. Things have come a long way in 10 years, but the need for computer to video conversion has never been stronger - particularly in the mid to high end markets. Originally, the PC-TV adaptor was designed for the purpose of using cheap home televisions instead of a monitor - CGA monitors often cost in excess of £250 back then! These days with SVGA and XGA resolutions, there's no real desire to replace a monitor but instead to work along side it - allowing more people to view the computer's output, or simply to record the signal to video tape. In view of these developments UHF outputs are no longer required (as was present on the very first unit), but image filtering is vital, in order to reduce flickering when the high resolutions being output by today's computers are converted to video. The CORIOscan Pro S/SG offers a 6 line flicker reduction filter, allowing conversion of 1600x1200 images with no line-dropping, which basically means that CAD drawings from PCs or workstations will come out correctly rather than be broken up. The
latest releases (CORIOscan Connect+,
CORIOscan Select and CORIOgen Eclipse) offer the same advanced
technology, but with features and pricing to match the cost-conscious
user. |
